The question of setting the clutch cable correctly is still open as of today, June 12.

After I learned that the clutch cable fits VERY snugly through the aluminum bracket on the engine,
I made the error of setting the cable so that when the clutch is applied, the cable (via the lever)
pushes in on the clutch only as much as I could do it by hand.
This is wrong; it needs to push the clutch in about 1/2 inch or more further than that.
In the next few days I will attempt this by
1) insuring that there is no slack in the cable and
2) by adjusting the lever bar bolt inward.
We shall see.  If you have any advice or opinion on all this, please write me.
